Al Downing, former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, can relate to the 600 Simi Valley Baseball League players because he grew up playing ball in Trenton, N.J. He signed as a free agent with the New York Yankees in 1961 and spent 17 seasons in the majors, his last seven with the Dodgers.
